Brotherhood and Unity in the Adult Industry: Safety Starts Within the Community

Safety Within the Community

The adult industry is one of the oldest, yet also one of the most dangerous forms of work. Human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and violence are part of the reality that many sex workers face daily. That is why the question arises: who can actually improve safety in this industry?

According to Žiga Sedevčič, director of the Dobra Družba organization, the answer is clear: the workers themselves – connected, informed, and united.

ClientEye: A Case of Good Practice

In an interview for Danas, Sedevčič highlights the mobile application ClientEye, which has established itself as an effective tool, especially in the UK. The application allows for the anonymous exchange of information about clients, thereby creating a self-protective community.

Workers can enter a client's phone number into the database and check if they have already been flagged as problematic – due to violence, non-payment, or other risks. Such a system quickly spreads warnings and reduces risks before an incident occurs.

Sedevčič emphasizes that this is a practice that would make sense to expand in the region as well: 'No one will make sex work safer than the workers themselves.'

Self-organization Instead of Illusions

The central message of the interview is a call for brotherhood and unity in the adult industry – a value that should transcend national borders and mental barriers. Self-organization allows for the gathering of experiences, the transfer of knowledge to new and younger workers, and more realistic decisions about entering or leaving the industry.

According to Sedevčič, the Dobra Družba organization was created precisely with the aim of helping those who are in the industry against their will, offering support in leaving the industry, and providing credible, realistic information about work in commercial sexuality.

Regional Solutions for Regional Challenges

In addition to promoting ClientEye, Dobra Družba is also developing other solutions aimed at the daily needs of workers. Among them are 'Radni odmor', a portal for booking and finding workspaces or business opportunities, the development of an application for organizing the workday, and the establishment of an agency focused on male sex work in the Balkans.

The common denominator of these initiatives is pragmatism: improving working conditions where regulation is lagging, and reducing risks with community tools.

Solidarity as a Security Mechanism

The interview in Danas shows that safety in the adult industry is not primarily a question of repression or prohibition, but of connection and information. Brotherhood and unity are not a slogan, but a survival strategy in an environment where institutional protection often fails.

When knowledge is shared, risks are reduced, and voices are connected, the adult industry becomes less dangerous – not because it would be ideal, but because it is better organized.
