Responding to Feedback and Looking Ahead
As promised, we continue with column #2. After reviewing the response to the first column, we are answering comments from the wider public. This column is not another 'fabricated' story from the mainstream media, but the original work of a person and member of the Dobra Družba union. Our intention is not to convince the convinced. Our wish is to raise awareness and inform people who are interested in this topic. But let me warn the stigmatizers of this topic that: 'with every day that there are fewer of them, there will also be fewer victims in this world.' π
Why I Joined the Union
I joined the Dobra Družba union after a meeting with the president of Dobra Družba. Žiga presented and explained the main goals that we will strive for and try to achieve.
1. SOS Telephone for Support and Advice
Such a phone line for sex workers will be a huge support for everyone facing problems and questions about sex work. The SOS phone counselors will be experienced in this type of work and will be able to help people in distress with advice and their own experiences.
2. Films Presenting the Professions
Sex work is divided into several branches that differ greatly from each other. We divide them into prostitutes, erotic masseuses and masseurs, strippers, etc. Not all sex workers are the same, and for this purpose, we will shoot short presentation films of each branch of sex work, which is important for greater general knowledge and breaking stereotypes.
3. Safety and Health at Work
Sex workers mostly enter this business inexperienced and often risk their lives. We most often learn the basic rules of recognizing dangerous, non-serious, or difficult clients, protecting our own physical and mental health, and making smart choices about the work environment from bad experiences. With our help, there will be fewer of these, and work for sex workers in Slovenia can proceed more positively. I am glad that I joined the Dobra Družba organization, where I can help others with my experiences.
