Letter to the Government of the Republic of Serbia

Request for the establishment of a model for regulating sex work.

Introduction

Date: June 4, 2024

Dear Sir/Madam, On behalf of the Dobra Družba organization, we are addressing you with a request to establish a model for regulating sex work in Serbia. As a marginalized group of citizens and economic migrants, we want clarity regarding our rights and obligations. We are not asking for charity or privileges, but for recognition and definition of our work, as well as inclusion in the decision-making process that affects our lives.

Need for Clear Definitions and Legislation

It is necessary to define all undefined and outdated interpretations of laws related to sex work. When discussing sex work, making decisions, or touching on this topic in any way, it is essential that sex worker organizations be invited to the discussion. Speaking on our behalf without our participation has so far brought bad and unrealistic solutions that do not reflect the actual needs and conditions in our community.

Space for Work and Health Services

We want to know where we can legally perform our work and where not. In addition, we are looking for clear guidelines regarding the use of health services – what belongs to us and what services we are entitled to.

Definition of Sex Work

It is important that sex work is precisely defined to avoid future misunderstandings. This definition should include all aspects of our work and be aligned with the needs and rights of sex workers.

Participation in Court Matters

We want to participate in court proceedings concerning sex work, because only in this way can we ensure that decisions are fair and based on the actual situation. Our safety and transparency of work are of key importance, and we want to establish mechanisms that will enable this.

Conclusion

If you have additional proposals, please contact us and be part of the change!

Awaiting your response and constructive cooperation, we cordially greet you.

Sincerely,

Electra Elite
